The idea behind Sudoku

A standard Sudoku has nine rows, nine columns and nine 3-by-3 boxes. Fill the empty squares with numbers 1 through 9 so that no number repeats in a row, column or box. The numbers given by the puzzle cannot be changed.

You do not have to start in the first square. Look for a row, column or box with many numbers already filled in, rule out numbers that are present, and find a square with only one possible answer. Each new number can reveal another clue.

Playing Sudoku Q

  1. Open a puzzleChoose the level button on the game home screen to start or resume the current puzzle. The other mode offers the selections available in the game.
  2. Choose a square, then a numberClick an empty square and select a number from 1 to 9 below the board. Difficulty, mistakes, score and time appear above it.
  3. Keep possibilities in pencilTurn the pencil control on, then select a number to add a small note. Turn it off to enter a full-size answer.
  4. Review your movesUse undo or the eraser to adjust your entries. Hints depend on what the game currently makes available; pencil notes are a useful place to start.

Coming back to a puzzle

Numbers, pencil notes and scores are saved in the current browser on your device. Allow a moment after entering a move before refreshing or closing the page. Return to the same address in the same browser, then open the level again.

Keep cuibb.top/games/sudoku-q/ as your regular game address. Another device, private browsing, cleared site data or a different domain may not have your progress. Local saves are not cloud backups.

Three ways to take it slowly

  • Find a certainty first. When a row has only one missing number, start there.
  • Check all three groups. A square must fit its row, column and 3-by-3 box at the same time.
  • Keep uncertainty in pencil. A note records a possibility, not a solved square.

Common questions

Do I need an account or an app?

No site account or app installation is required. The game downloads its runtime files on first load, so please allow loading to finish.

Does progress sync between devices?

Not automatically. Each browser keeps its own local save, including different browsers on the same device.

Why does a refresh return me to the home screen?

The home screen does not mean the save is lost. Open the level to continue; do not choose restart when you intend to resume.

Are there ads or purchases?

Sudoku Q currently runs with ads off on this site, and web purchases are not offered. Future changes will be described in the updates and relevant notices.
